In this article you will read about my Turkey Fethiye apartment and why not to rent a place from Semanur Aksoy and her husband Halil in Fethiye, Turkey. This is about my own personal experience I had with them when I rented their Aqua 14 apartment in Sunset Beach Club in Fethiye, Turkey. I know they are also renting a house/chalet in the mountains approx. 50 km from Fethiye next to their own house.
Turkey Fethiye apartment – my bad experience
But the experience I had in Fethiye in Turkey was a real nightmare which is why I decided to write about it publicly. I never want anyone else to have to go through the same thing I had to.
Until I went to Fethiye in December 2024, I’d had very few bad experiences with accommodations around the world (except for Kenya). Yes, of course there were some small issues, but they were not that important, or they would get solved asap. Or I was staying there just for a few nights so it was kind of bearable for a short term.
But the situation in Fethiye was a different story.
Let me start from the beginning…
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – in Fethiye
Before renting a Turkey Fethiye apartment
I saw an ad about renting a mountain house in Turkey that Semanur Aksoy posted in a FB group. So I sent her a few messages asking about the place. At first, she seemed very nice, very responsive. But it turned out she did not recommend me to stay alone in that mountain house because of the cold. She said, that renting their beach apartment on the Calis beach in Fethiye, Turkey instead, would be a better idea for me.
All I wanted was to have a very quiet place to myself, without being disturbed by anything nor anyone, so I could focus on preparing an online course and changing a lot of technical things on my website. So a fast wifi was a must.
I asked about the noise and if the apartment was quiet several times online before I even agreed to rent it. Semanur would always just say that yes, it was off season so almost no people there, and very quiet.
So I booked a flight from Bratislava, Slovakia to Dalaman, Turkey and then a taxi from there to Fethiye.
My visa in Turkey is for 90 days and Semanur wanted to rent their apartment only for 1 to 3 months straight away. She did not even let me stay for a few days first to see if it was really quiet as she said it was. I should have taken that as a red flag.
All she wanted was a 3-month rent from me in cash in euros directly at my arrival.
And that was already suspicious to me but I still blindly trusted her at that point.
And as I needed to focus on online stuff for some time, I was happy I found a place for 3 months so I could save time on moving around often.

Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho – in the apartment
Beginning of my Turkey Fethiye apartment stay
So straight after I arrived into the apartment, I paid them 1,710 euros in cash for the next 3 months. They never gave me any receipt, nothing at all. I was so tired after it took me 26 hours to get to the apartment without sleeping, that I did not pay much attention to that when it was happening.
Trusting strangers just like that turned out to be a huge mistake on my end.
At first, the place seemed lovely to me. The weather was nice and sunny, I could go to the beach often in between laptop time. But then it got a lot colder and I was trying air con to heat up the apartment but it did not seem to change from cold air to warm no matter which settings I tried.
Even before my stay, Semanur told me there were both electric heater and air con in the apartment to heat it up. So when I texted her on the NYE that I was really frozen there on those colder days as the air con was not working and the small heater was not strong enough and took hours to heat up at least a bit, she replied they would come in 3 days to check it.
I tried to be understanding about the NYE but leaving me another 3 days and 3 nights experiencing cold seemed just inhuman from them. But it seemed like Friday was the day when they go to Fethiye to drink alcohol with their friends, so they would just do it after checking the air con on the same day. Wrong to leave the paying client (in this case me) waiting for 3 days experiencing cold.

Broken things at Turkey Fethiye apartment
When they came, Halil managed to change some air con settings but the air con would work for a few minutes and then switch off by itself. He did not know why so Semanur found the air con paper manual in one of the drawers and said they would check at home why the air con switches off so I know how to change it to make it work full time.
Halil also asked me if the apartment was quiet. So I gave him an honest reply that it was not. I could hear loads of cars and motorbikes passing by (he then said you can hear cars in the bottom bedroom but not in the upper one but I did hear them also in the upper bedroom which was warmer so I was staying there).
I also said there were many dogs around the apartment barking like crazy both during the day and at night so it was very disturbing and Halil replied ”yes, there are dogs”. Nothing like sorry, we never told you about the loud dogs. But it was obvious from his reply that they knew very well there were dogs in the area. They just decided to tell me the apartment is very quiet anyway. Despite dogs barking for hours.
And then I also mentioned the broken toilet in the bathroom upstairs which was making noise every few seconds during the entire night and I could not sleep. And yes, I do use ear plugs or earphones every single night, and most of the time also cover my head with a T-shirt to block more noise but I could still hear the toilet all night.
So he just said that they were told that the toilet was repaired already and Semanur said that I should try to hit it to make the flush stop making noise. I was shocked to hear that kind of ”advice”. Because if that was all that was necessary to do to make the toilet flush shut up, why would they even have to call someone to repair it before my stay as they said they did? It made zero sense.
Oh, and Semanur also told me that they did not even check the air con since last winter before I came so they did not know if it was working or not. I mean, excuse me?! You have a guest who is renting your place for 3 months, the guest spends 26 hours to get to your apartment from a different country (and a different continent, as a matter of fact) and you can’t be even bothered to spend a minute to check if the air con heating works in winter?
And they did not care if the toilet flush was repaired or not at all, either. Because it was making noise every 90 to 120 seconds the entire time (yes, I did use phone stopwatch to count it several times during my stay). So they did not bother to spend 90 seconds of their time for 1,710 euros I paid them! Not before I moved in, and not once they were at the apartment with me when I told them about the noisy toilet either.
They just did not care at all about anything, except for the money they got from me. Unbelievable!
After the conversation about the noisy toilet not letting me sleep they did not go to check the toilet. They simply left the apartment. Most probably to get some drinks…
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment in Sunset Beach Club Fethiye – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho
More problems at Fethiye apartment
Later on, they started reconstructing various apartments at Sunset Beach Club around me and in front of me at the same time for several days. The noise was unbearable inside my apartment. And I could not record videos, nor focus on preparing the online course in that noise. The buildings had very thin ”paper walls” and you could hear absolutely everything. No one advised me about any reconstruction. Not Semanur, not the Sunset Beach Club management/employees.
Then I spent days waiting for Semanur to text me how to change the air con settings to make it work full time without a break. She never did. Yet another proof of them not caring at all.
I was also waiting for another thing. When we were discussing details about my stay before I even booked my flight to Turkey, Semanur told me they would take me on some trips around Fethiye. That was part of our deal.
So I was waiting for Semanur to tell me when we would go. She never did. Five and a half week passed, and she never even mentioned the tours which were part of our deal and they were included in the price I paid. Yet another lie.
When cold days came again, I texted Semanur about the air con and the trips, and noisy toilet (hitting the flush never worked to shut it up, obviously). A normal human being would feel sorry for causing problems to someone else, for lying about the things I should get included in my stay but never got or were not working. A normal human being would try to solve the problems. Or at least I would.

No customer care from the apartment owners
But what did Semanur do?
She called me rude, gave me some silly illogical excuses about why they never took me on tours, and then she said she did not want to talk to me any more so I should stop texting her.
I mean, seriously?! Just lie to the client, grab her money for the apartment and even dare to tell her when there’s problems at the apartment to stop bothering? I was staring at her messages with my mouth open and could not believe that.
Personally, I cannot stand lies, excuses and inhuman and unprofessional approach and that’s exactly what I was getting from Semanur and Halil the entire time.
Then Halil texted me blaming me that I did not tell them for 2 weeks and a half that the toilet was still noisy and air con still not working. But somehow he was missing the point that it was them who are the owners of the apartment, they knew about the problems very well, and they should solve the issues. Not me repeating the same thing to them over and over.
Good customer care is when the client tells you about a problem once, and then you go and solve it.
Bad customer care? Being rude to the client making them a problem because they did not repeat to you several times the problems were still there (of course they were if the owners did nothing to solve them!)
And Halil even told me not to disturb Semanur with my messages (hello, I paid for something I never got!) and he said they are no travel agency to take me on tours. So I sent him 2 screenshots, one from messenger and another one from whatsapp, where Semanur herself told me they would take me on tours. It was never my idea, she came up with that. Of course Halil never replied anything to that. He just went even more nasty saying he did not want to read my messages either.
Seriously?! Zero customer care whatsoever. Completely non-existent, with inhuman approach as a bonus!
That is what I got for 1,710 eur.
I told Halil to send someone to repair both the air con and toilet flush the following day, meaning on Thursday 23rd January. He replied ”not tomorrow”.
So on Thursday when I was on my way back to the apartment, Burak, one of the guys from the Sunset Beach Club complex asked me how I was doing and if everything was ok. So I told him the truth. First I asked him about the reconstruction all around the complex, told him it was extremely noisy and I could not focus on what I was supposed to be doing on my laptop.
I told him the owners of the apartment never told me anything about the reconstruction. Instead, they said it was supposed to be very quiet during my stay. Burak looked at me and said ”no, there’s always reconstruction here at this time of the year as we are preparing for the main season.” So here you go, yet another lie from Semanur and Halil.
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho – electric heating at the apartment
Then Burak offered to go with me and check the air con in the apartment. He changed some things again and it started to work properly without a break. And all it took him was just a few minutes. He also offered to send one of the employees to repair the toilet but we had to wait until the next day as exactly when Burak was in my apartment, there was a problem with water in the entire complex so the toilet did not make any noise due to no running water. I had zero running water in my apartment for several hours on that day.
I had not gone myself to talk to the employees at Sunset Beach Club about the problems with the apartment owners before, as the owners directly told me on the day of my arrival NOT to tell anyone at Sunset that I was renting the apartment from them and paying for it. I wanted to avoid problems so I simply did not go. But looking back, now I know that I should have gone when the first problem appeared.
I realized they were renting me the apartment illegaly so it was logical they asked me NOT to talk to the Sunset Beach Club staff.
And asking me to pretend I was not renting the apartment but just staying there for free was so wrong. Yes, yet another red flag! Based on what I heard then, Semanur and Halil did not have the permit to rent the apartment and were renting it to me illegally. I would have not cared about that if they only treated me the right way.
Once Burak left my apartment after reparing the air con, I got a message from Halil asking if I would be at the apartment the following afternoon (Friday 24th January) waiting for a repairman to check the toilet and air con. I mean, 3 days after I told them that I was already waiting for 2 weeks and a half for them to repair them?!
Once Halil said that the repairman was already coming in the afternoon but I had to be there, then he said I had to confirm I would be there first and only then he would arrange the repairman. Then he said he’d already arranged for a repairman to come. And he kept swaping these 2 things. So it looked like yet another lie.
I had enough of that treatment and I told Halil that if the toilet was not repaired the following day, I would go and report them to police for renting the apartment illegally and would also talk about all the details of how they were treating me to the Sunset Beach Club management.
The only thing that Halil replied to that was that the Sunset management had no rule over them, the apartment or me whatsoever.
Then the worst night at the apartment came. The neighbors staying next to me at Aqua 12 were having a sort of a party, and were shouting for hours. It was 2 local women living there with a small girl. I saw them before on the beach. Based on Semanur’s lie (one of them), there were not supposed to be any people staying there at all because the complex was empty off season (as I was told).
But I had to bear the women’s screaming for days already and I seriously had enough of all the noise and lies and bad treatment I got at that place.
It was impossible to fall asleep in that noise even with earplugs first, and then noise cancelling headphones with deep sleep meditation music on. At midnight when the women in the next apartment were still screaming, I stood up from my bed and walked to their apartment in pyjamas.
The women were a nightmare to talk to, and they spoke no English except for ”f*ck” one of them shouted at me several times showing me with her hand to get lost. So I went back to my bedroom and put the headphones on again.
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho – reconstruction under my balcony
In my country, that would be the correct thing to do in that situation. Go and talk to the noisy people face to face asking them to be quiet at night. Because good people would just shut up once they are told others cannot sleep because of their noise (and intelligent ones would not even make any noise there at night in the first place).
But apparently, in Turkey it’s not like that. In Turkey people prefer to cause problems and go directly to police instead. How was I supposed to know?! To me, it’s not ok to go to police if the problem could be solved with the other person face to face within just a few minutes.
That’s how I was raised. I always expect other people to be wise and respectful human beings.
Why I wanted to leave the Turkey Fethiye apartment
I texted Burak about the noisy neighbors and he told me I should have asked the security guy to sort it out. I did not even know there was any security guy at the complex at night. I always stayed inside the apartment after 8pm. And no one had ever told me about the rules there. They were not even written at any visible place.
A few minutes later I got a whatsapp missed call from Halil and then he texted me that I should stop whatever I was doing as they’d call police and it would end up bad for me.
At first, I really had no idea what he was talking about. How could asking people to be quiet at night, at a place where it is NOT allowed to be noisy at night, was a problem? How was I the problem in that situation being threatened with police and not actually the people making noise themselves?
I had enough!
I texted Halil that I wanted to leave that nighmare of the apartment and wanted all my money back as it was the complete opposite of what they promised to me and the things were not working at the apartment as they should anyway. No reply from him, yet again.
An hour later, when the women were still shouting after 1 am, someone was ringing my bell and banging on my door. But I was in bed just getting my period and did not have energy to go downstairs. I just wanted to sleep in silence.
The neighbors kept screaming in their apartment next to me until almost 4 am.
I was destroyed the next day. When I was in the bathroom upstairs cleaning my menstrual cup, I heard someone knocking and shouting at my door. I changed from pyjamas to normal clothes and when I opened the door a few minutes later, it was Halil there with 2 other men I’d never seen before.
They told me that I was in trouble, I had to pack all my things right now and leave. Well, to be precise, they did not tell me. They were shouting at me. Halil both looked and behaved like a criminal at prison talking to another criminal.
But somehow, they forgot I am a woman alone in a foreign country, and treating me like that was wrong on all levels (from man to woman, from host to me as a paying guest, from one human being to another human being, from 3 men being nasty to 1 woman all at once).
Only when I asked who the other 2 men were, I got a reply. One said he was the manager of Sunset Beach Club. I never met him before, and Halil before said that the management had no control over me nor apartment because the apartment was his and did not belong to the main Sunset Beach Club owner. Weird! The other guy was the complex security guy (he did not say a word to me, but I just noticed a label on his clothes when looking closer).
Not sure why but or them or the noisy neighbors made up a ridiculous story that I entered their apartment at 1 am and I could go to prison for that. I couldn’t do anything else but stare at that BS. I never did anything else but knocked on their door asking them to put the music down, and would never enter the apartment. Why would I even do that in pyjamas? What difference would it make asking them to be more quiet from outside of the door vs. from inside of their apartment? Why would I even want to enter an apartment with such a terrible energy like they had there shouting at night? And, btw, it happened at midnight, not at 1 am as they claimed.
When I asked them for some kind of proof, I got nothing, obviously, because it was a complete lie.
All I was told was to pack asap and leave, or I’d go to prison.

How the apartment owners treated me
At that point, after all the problems there, of course I did not want to stay in that apartment any more anyway. But it was exactly the middle of my stay, 6 weeks have passed and I had another 6 weeks paid for there already. So obviously, I wanted my money back.
So I said I was going to pack and they could come with my refund in 2 hours.
It was Friday mid-day, I had no idea what to do or where to go instead, and Booking.com does not work when you are in Turkey and you want to rent a place in Turkey. Or at least it did not at that time. And I did not know where else to look for another accommodation online quickly.
I almost fainted from the lack of sleep when running around the apartment packing. But thanks to yoga breathing exercises I managed to calm myself until they came back.
But yet again I was treated like sh*t. First, Halil wanted me to leave the apartment without giving me any refund. I mean, really?! After them causing me so many problems, not being able to sleep at night nor prepare the online course during the day inside the apartment, having to experience cold because of broken air con etc. Kicking me to the street even though I still had another 6 weeks paid for? What kind of human is he when he tried to do that??
I refused to step out of the apartment door until I got my money back. Halil entered the apartment to check if everything was ok there, which I found completely unnecessary as, of course, I am not stupid nor a bad person to break anything there.
Then Halil finally grabbed an envelope with money from his pocket. But when him and the manager were counting it in front of me, it was not half of the money I was supposed to get back for the 2nd half of my stay.
Halil just took 70 euros for electricity and water, not showing me any official bill to prove that it was exactly how much I spent. Of course he showed me nothing, just wrote it himself on a piece of paper. Yet another scam. And a big one.
Because before my stay I asked Semanur how much could water and electricity cost for a month and she replied that it was not expensive in Turkey and could be 10 to 20 euros per month.
And just to clarify, the fridge was unplugged during my stay because I was not using it. And the air con worked for max 2 hours during my entire stay, and that was only when we were changing the settings. And I am a very eco-friendly person, not using lights at night because they are disturbing me.
So there’s no way I could have wasted 70 euros on electricity and water in 6 weeks with my eco lifestyle and after they told me that it would be max 20 euros per month (and that was for using loads of electricity which was the opposite of what I did).
And on top of that, Halil just wanted to keep another 75 euros from my rent just like that. I was furious when I saw what he was trying to do after everything they already did to me.
Enough was enough! And that’s exactly what I said. That the amount was not correct.
Straight after that, Halil went behind me, kicked me, I fell on the floor in a shock and he started pushing me outside of the door entrance. He even then kicked into my back where I had a backpack with laptop and hard drives inside with all my work things from the past 15 years.
The security guy with the so called Sunset Beach Club manager moved closer to us but I wasn’t sure at that time if they were trying to stop him or help him to push me down the stairs.
I just wanted to stand up and walk away from those 3 bad men.
At that very moment Semanur came and walked up the stairs (my apartment was on the first floor, not ground). She saw me on the floor and reached out for my arm. She said she wanted to help me but her face expression was not nice at all so I did not trust her after everything that happened. I told them all to leave me alone so I could stand up.
Once I did, I grabbed the envelope from the manager with 710 euros refund and I went down the stairs to grab my suitcase which was already down there after the security guy took it down the stairs.
Semanur shouted at me, I quote: ”go to hell and I’ll make sure no one will rent you any place in Fethiye”.
I could hardly believe what she said. A woman (her) sees how 3 men, one of which was her own husband, are physically attacking another woman on the floor (me) in a situation when I did nothing wrong and it was them lying and treating me badly, and what she does is to scream to go to hell??? What does her behaviour say about her?
If I ever did the same they did, I could not look at myself in the mirror for the rest of my life. But apparently, some people do not need any character to live.
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho – blue noise cancelling headphones I bought
After I left the Fethiye apartment
The security guy sat on his bicycle and left. The manager left walking. And Halil with Semanur smashed the door behind themselves and went inside their apartment at Aqua 14 at Sunset Beach Club.
They all just left me there sitting on the pavement not having a place to go to. Zero humanity!
I grabbed my things, walked to the road, stopped a local minibus and asked the driver about any hotel. Although his English was very basic, we both agreed about the busiest place in the end of the Calis beach where we thought I might find a hotel room available. So I just got off the bus there.
Thankfully, they had a free room at the first hotel I entered so I paid for 1 night. I jumped to bed straight away still not knowing what to do about the whole situation.
I’ve never been in a situation like this so I did not know what to do. 16 years of traveling around the world and it was the first time I was treated like this.
I was not sure if I should have called the police even before moving out of the Turkey Fethiye apartment, or not. In some countries policemen are always on the side of the locals no matter what. And that’s what I heard many times about Turkey.
In 16 years of traveling around the world I had to deal with police once only – when my friend and I were robbed in Mexico so we went to the police office together to report it. It happened at his house so we had to go. That was my only encounter with police abroad ever in 16 years of my world trips. Thankfully, I just never needed police otherwise.
And I was so exhausted and shaken from all the problems with Semanur and Halil, lack of sleep, all the noise, and my period that I didn’t have any energy to even go to the police directly after the incident. And I speak zero Turkish. I did not even know where to find someone I could trust who could help me translate it all. I just wanted to sleep first.
When I went online after a short bed time, I got FB messages from a few people I’ve never even met that Semanur was spreading bad things about me in some FB groups. Those lies about me treating a local woman and her child badly at 1 am. Nothing about that was truth. That child was not even there at the door when I went to ask them to be more quiet. And even the time when Semanur said it happened was incorrect as it was an hour earlier than she said.
Seeing that on FB, and also some nasty messages from a few people living in Fethiye who believed Semanur’s lies, made me decide. It was getting dark so I had to make a new plan fast.
Bad experience with Turkey Fethiye apartment – Semanur Aksoy Letsboho – Fethiye town
Not feeling safe in Fethiye any more
After the way I was treated in Fethiye, I did not even want to stay in Fethiye nor Turkey as such any longer. I did NOT feel safe there any more after Halil and Semanur behaved like aggresive criminals.
I have a choice and spending my time, my money and my energy at a place were I was treated so inhumanly, is not something I would ever willingly choose.
I wanted to leave the town the morning after the incident.
Bugger! There were no flights so I had to take a ferry and could not ask for a tax refund at the port (there’s no such office in the Fethiye port, only at the airport 1 hour away) for the noise cancelling headphones I had to buy due to noise in the apartment (they were not cancelling the noise fully anyway). That made me lose even more money paying for the tax I could not get back at the Fethiye harbor.
I’ve stayed at more than 60 countries and never ever had to go through anything like Semanur and Halil did to me. Ever. Not even close!
Then I heard from a bunch of expats on Facebook that they have been having some bad experiences with Turkish landlords as well, and they were bullied by them. What a shame to treat others like that!
Some Turkish people really do not realize that once the news about expats and tourists being treated badly by Turkish landlords start to spread around, they will start losing clients.
Is it really that difficult to understand that we should treat other people in a human way? And in tourism as well?
Imagine how many people might read my blog post here now, or might have seen my social media posts about the incident with Semanur and Halil, and not only refuse to rent the apartment/house from them directly but maybe even decide they never want to visit Fethiye or the entire Turkey after that!
To make it clear: Semanur and Halil took 1,000 euros from me for 6 weeks and refunded me only 710 eur for another 6 weeks. Based on our initial agreement, it cost 570 eur per 1 month, so 855 eur for 6 weeks I stayed there. Plus 10 to 20 euros max for electricity and water on top of that per month. So I should have paid from 870 eur to 885 eur at the very maximum for the entire 6 weeks. Not 1,000 eur they kept. And definitely not in the situation when the things were NOT as we agreed (about the apartment, noise, heating and tours.)
Please, if you want to avoid problems, stay away from Halil and Semanur Aksoy (= SemA). Never trust them, never rent any of their illegal places, never buy anything from them. Semanur can be found on IG as @letsboho.
You can find some parts of our conversations with Semanur and Halil below:
PS: Yes, I admit that I could have reacted and talked in a calmer way when the whole situation was happening but I do NOT deserve to be treated like that without doing anything wrong. It was all just too much to handle. No one deserves that kind of disgusting treatment as I got at Sunset Beach Club in Fethiye! And a paying client even less.
PS 2: Before my 6-week Fethiye experience, I only had spent a day in Istanbul. Hadn’t visited any other parts of Turkey so this is pretty much my only experience with Turkey and its locals. A horrible one, unfortunately. Not sure if I ever want to visit Turkey again after that, to be honest, even though I do understand not all people are bad. To tell the truth, I had mostly nice experiences with other Turkish people in Fethiye (restaurants, shops, on the beach etc).
As I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, I simply had to speak up about the scam and the disrespectful way I was treated. I not only lost my time and energy, did not finish my online course, was exhausted from noise and felt low due to the owners, I also lost extra money. The way I was treated by Semanur and Halil at their Turkey Fethiye apartment caused me trauma. It took me over a year to stop shaking when writing this post to finally be able to finish it.
